Why Seasonal Flowers Are Best: Learning the Art of Floristry with Nature.
If you’re beginning your floristry journey or attending one of my floral design workshops, one of the first lessons I teach is this: seasonal flowers are best. Choosing to work with seasonal blooms helps you design more confidently, understand your craft more deeply, and develop a floristry style that is sustainable, creative, and authentic.
This bridal bouquet features a harmonious blend of soft pastel blooms, using locally grown cosmos, zinna, roses, scabious, aster, dahlia, and much more, in shades of blushes and ivories with a pop of burnt orange. Almost completely foliage free, the design is loosely gathered, creating an organic, unstructured shape that feels both elegant and natural. The stems are tied with a simple, cream-coloured ribbon, to create an understated finish to the design.

Seasonal Flowers Inspire Creative Floristry
When you start out as a beginner florist, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the endless options of imported flowers. But focusing on seasonal flowers opens up a world of choice — with endless colours, textures, sizes, and varieties that naturally reflect the time of year. In my floristry workshops, I mentor you on how to let seasonal flowers guide your designs, helping you build confidence and creativity while staying true to your own style.
Sustainable and Affordable
Part of my florist mentoring approach is teaching why seasonal floristry makes practical sense. Seasonal blooms are usually less expensive than imports, making them ideal for florists setting out on their journey who want to experiment without overspending. They are also more sustainable and eco-friendly, particularly when sourced from locally grown flowers. Using flowers from small growers not only reduces environmental impact but also supports local businesses — something I encourage all everyone to consider as they develop their careers in floristry.
Building Memory and Connection Through Seasonal Floristry
One of the most rewarding aspects of seasonal floristry is its connection to time and place. Flowers grown locally in season capture the essence of the moment. They can instantly transport you — or your clients — back to a special event or season. In my floral design workshops and mentoring sessions, I help you understand how to use this power in your work, so your arrangements feel authentic, memorable, and uniquely yours.
